1. How often should I get a massage?
Clients come in for massage for different reasons: relaxation, medical reasons, pain relief, etc. If you are looking for a natural way to get rid of pain and discomfort, as well as to keep up with your lifestyle, the recommended frequency is 2-4 weeks. This frequency will release muscle tension and knots on the muscle that builds up during the month causing pain and tightness.
2. What type of massage should I get?
The preference of massage varies from person to person. Some clients like soft touch, known as Swedish massage, for relaxation purposes. Others enjoy deeper pressure, known as deep tissue, to find relief from tightness. Swedish is light pressure allowing you to relax and enjoy the feeling of being pampered. Deep tissue is an intense session where the therapist will use most of their body weight to force the muscles to let go of all tightness and knots.
3. Will I be completely exposed?
Your privacy will always be top priority! During the session you will be completely covered by the sheets used. The sheets will be relatively thin – but not see-through – so that the therapist can manipulate the sheet to expose your limbs without any discomfort to the client.
4. How do you know what muscle is bothering me?
A massage therapist has great knowledge of the human body and how it all works as one machine. We need to know which muscles do what movement, and which muscles support other muscles in movement. For instance, one of the most common pain is between the shoulder blades. The therapist should know what muscles are in that area and which muscles move the scapula (shoulder blade) or are being pulled by the scapula. Then, the therapist will ask questions pertaining to the client’s pain to narrow muscle choices.
5. How do you know that massage will work?
Massage therapy as been around for thousands of years, originating in China when medicine was still being researched. Massage therapy allows for old blood to leave the muscle, making room for new and cleaner blood to be received to give the muscle the nutrients it needs to grow. A lot of pain in the muscles comes from tightness or lots also known as trigger points. Working on the muscles until they release the tension will allow for the pain or discomfort to eventually go away.
6. Is it different to massage a woman than a man?
There is essentially no difference. A muscle is a muscle The only difference will be the definition of the muscles. Both genders have the same muscles – it depends on whether or not the client works their muscles to top definition.
